Is it normal to get annoyed by popular songs?

I get so annoyed when a song I've known for ages gets popular! It just bugs me! Like I'd listen to a song for ages knowing it hasn't got a music video and that makes me happy, but then it has a music video. This would be fine if people around me didn't sing it as if to rub it in my face. I know they're not but it fells as if they are. So I this normal? Does everybody get this?

    EXACTLY! I love how I was listening to the black keys way before the Brothers album and then all of a sudden, BOOM! Everyone is saying they are amazing even though they only listen to tighten up. Ugh. Stupid.

    Absolutely agree. When something meaningful and more "out there" becomes popular, it gets overstimulated by all the hype and fan base. Kinda ruins the song/band

    @yumaniac - the same thing happened to me! I had all their previous albums before Brothers came out. And, all of a sudden my friends are obsessed with this band. And the whole time before Brothers came out, I was trying to get them to listen to my other Black Keys CDs. I was like, "I told you they were great. But you only wanna take the radio's word for it?" It's a shame how some people only like what's currently popular.

    As soon as it's in the charts,all genuine meaning to the song is lost.

    It's the same with books to - you find a very good book, enjoy it, and suddenly years later everyone keeps saying how they were the first to read it and how awesome it is. It makes you wanna forget all about it.
