Is it normal to get an erection just sitting next to a teenager?

I am 53 with a 42 year old girlfriend that has a 13 year old daughter. One day I was sitting on the sofa with her watching TV. When I got up for something her mother noticed I had an erection. I did not know I had one until I stood up. It was not a hard one and I had no idea I had it while I was sitting.
The mother was not happy and said it was not normal and it better not happen again. How do I control something that was involuntary.

    I must be naive..or my thought pattern just doesn't go that direction. Nowhere in this story did the op say he was aroused by the girl. I guess I assumed it was a random erection..a reflex. As usual, some people here make the worst possible assumption.

      Thank you I read this after I posted. I did not think this was a pervert site I just wanted to know if it was normal or not. I raised three boys and have never had any girls. I was just not sure if it was a normal thing. Some days I am arranging this thing because of movement. Nothing to do with who I am with. The girlfriend will most likely comment about this also. "What happened". Like I have an answer.
