Is it normal to get a white slime on your lips?

So I remember this girl at school always used vaseline on her lips and all day there's be white stringy slime round her lips hat she'd pick off. I always thought it was gross. Now 15 years later, I have the same thing (though not quite as bad). I've used vaseline on my lips for years but one day a few months ago I started getting these white stringy bits on my lips. It's really embarrassing. But now I even get it with lip gloss. What is it? Bacteria? If so why has it only recently started happening? I hate talking to people and finding there's a white slimy string between my lips. Ew.

It's not bacteria. Some people cal it "dead skin" although it's not skin at all. Sometimes lip gloss and lip balm does that. What I do to stop it is to constantly lick the inside of my lips where the stuff usually forms. Or just don't wear lip gloss.

    • But why would it just suddenly start happening after all these years?

Did you maybe start using a new lip gloss?

        • Ah, I suppose I did start using the vaseline with sun protection. Maybe it's something to do with that. I'll try the standard one again and see what happens...

its normal, but rarely discussed because its odd. it has nothing to do with chapstick or vaseline, its just mucus on the lips. the best thing you can do for it is just take some toilet paper and wipe it off.

    PENIS!

Sorry, the urge was uncontrollable... Anyway, to address your situation, I can not really relate. The only thing I get on my lips is dried saliva from drooling in my sleep sometimes.

I bet it's some sort of bacteria that accumulates on your lips. I get the same thing from working outside or when I'm super tired. Could also be plaque?
