Is it normal to get a retail job with no experience?

About a month ago I was job searching because I needed money and I was bored out of my mind with just staying home all day. I applied to at least 30 different places over a total time of 6 months, but the only one that hired me was a prestigious outlet store for a company called "7 For All Mankind". I have no retail experience at all and they already put me out on the store floor to sell jeans to people. I guess they have a lot of faith in me for some reason, and I'm glad I got the job, but is this normal?

You don't need any experience for most retail jobs. They kind of suck though if you stay long enough you will kind of want to murder people :)

I also got hired at a store w/ no retail experience only b/c I asked for minimum wage and was available to work on weekends. It feels special at first, but later you'll realize it was just for their convenience.

They hired you to do a job. And the best way to learn how to do it is by practice. You may not know everything at the beggining but you'll learn. :)
