Is it normal to get a hamster as a gift

So it's going to be my best friend's birthday in less than a month , and I need to buy a gift ! Last year I didn't have a job so I just gave her a card and that was it .
This year I do have a job and I want to do something more special for having a wack present last year .
So I remember going to a pet shop with her once, and she was telling me how she would like to have a hamster . So that's what I decided on getting her .
Is this too little ? Is this yet another wack gift? Should I get something else ? Any suggestions on what would be a good gift ?

    Its not normal to get people a hampster as a gift because pets are a burden. But in this case its ok because she told you that she wanted one so thats the exception. As for me i sure as hell dont want no Galldarn hampster. Ew they stink and you gotta maintain the cage. The hampster doesnt do shyt but sit in its cage poop exersize and sleep. How boring.

    yeah its a good idea if she says she wanted one. my friend got a hamster for his girlfriends anniversary and she loved it. and i dont think its a wack gift, especially if you buy a cage and stuff for it as well. :)
