Is it normal to get a dollar down payment from a wedding date?

So this guy wants to be my date to a wedding and he gave me a dollar as a down payment. If I change my mind is that ok? Do I have to give him his dollar back? Is this normal??

    I need more information.
    Is it your wedding or someone elses?
    You said the dollar is a down payment. What is the balance?
    Did you sign a legally binding contract?
    Did you make a verbal contract, which may or may not be legally binding?
    Is there an escape clause if either of the two preceding statements
    are true?
    Is this a mutual arrangement?
    Was this arrangement imposed by someone else?
    Did you consider if this was an Ethical agreement at the time of the transaction?
