Is it normal to gain weight even if you workout regularly?

I eat proper diet but can't seem to get rid of the weight around my belly. I workout 3-4 times a week and walk a total of 10-12 miles per week.

Any tips?

It's all about the calories. If you eat more than you burn you will maintain your weight or put it on. Stress is supposed to enhance belly fat. There are a number of factors, based on your gender, that will cause you to hold onto fat deposits. How much fat are we talking about?

I thought it was not a lot. But now it's making me conscious about it.

What is wrong with the way you are? Girls should be curvy and soft. At least the classic beauties, like Marilyn Monroe or Sophia Loren, were curvy and soft. A few pounds, as you say, is not a big problem to be all worried about.

Try keeping a food diary, you might be eating more than you think. Myfitnesspal is a great tool.

I suggest cutting way down on carbs and dairy and doing more cardio. That alone should help.

many things could come into this...

    1. gaining weight =/= gaining fat, muscle weighs a lot.

    2. some people just have fat body types. body types which gain weight easily and hold onto fat. if you have this body type it will be a lot tougher to lose any weight. relating to this, fat =/= unhealthy. aim for health and not for losing weight, especially if you do have this body type, youll only ruin yourself otherwise.

    3. if biologically youre female, then you cant do anything about it. the belly of the female body IS fat. thats where the majority of our fat stores are...even perfectly healthy females have fat bellies, thats not something you can change, even -thin- females -still- have portruding waistlines. like i said, aim for health.

Maybe you're gaining muscle on your legs.

I have slightly thicker thighs but i still find it closely proportionate to my overall weight.
