Is it normal to forget how good a person is to you ?

Is it normal to forget how good a person is to you yet when she /he does something that isn't that good to you you forget the good things she /he did ?. My oldest sister used to be good to me , whenever she travelled she used to (still does ) bring me stuff from the country she travelled to , she used to tell me to join her and her friends to the outings , she helped when i needed help , she gave me advice when i needed it among other good things , yet when she doesn't do good things to me , which aren't that bad , i remember the bad things and forget all the good things .

Your wallowing in self pity when she isn't as good to you as she normally is.

Of course, it's normal - look how many teenagers disrespect their parents and forget all the things they have done for their off-spring.

sounds like you think of her as a good person and have high expectations of her. Then when she doesn't meet these, you feel let down. I think it's human nature and a good thing you're aware that thinking this way isn't really balanced.

  • Then correct yourself when you start being hard on her. You are the master of your own thoughts.

for some reason,it seems the negative stuff has more of an impact than the good. just look at any news headlines, the murders, celebrity divorces, disasters (human and natural) always seem to make the front page.

  • I think it's proven that we remember the bad more than the good. I read it somewhere, not sure if it was true but I think it was.
