Is it normal to forget almost everything told to you

I'm only 19 and I literally forget everything that is said to me and I have a real problem listening but reading is my strong suit.

But the only things I can remember is people's birthdays

If I kept forgetting stuff like that I`d be scared of alzheimers, but as your`e only 19, it can`t be that.

I'm a visual person and also remember visual information much better than auditory.

You can probably remember more than you realise, you just need a prompt. We can't remember everything either, it's impossible.

Wow this is a lot like me. I can remember birthdays like nobodys business but when people talk to me I either forget what they said almost immediately or i wasn't really paying attention to begin with so I hear them but I'm not really listening. Reading though, I'm a little better now but I can't recall what I read. I have to go over it a few times to remember or just look back at it if I want to recall something. I hate that.

You're not paying much attention to what people are telling you, maybe?
