Is it normal to flush food waste and leftovers

Our bins are collected every two weeks. We live in a flat with no garden.

To prevent the smell of rotting food, and the attention it attracts from vermin, I flush our leftovers and waste food down the toilet.

There has never been a problem with blockages (probably because I make certain it goes down when I flush), nor has there ever been a problem with the drains.

I don't waste water as I wait until I need to go and only use one cistern full of water each time.

My DH seems quite ok with me doing this and tells me the landfill waste finds its way into watercourses from rainfall anyway, so he doesn't have any environmental issues.

What do you think?

Yes, I'd do the same in your situation 13
Not for me but I know of others who do the same 1

      Wow. And I questioned IIN?
Must be 'normal' if a type of toilet is advertised in this way (although I guess the alternatives they could show being flushed in the advert wouldn't be so pc?)

      Thanks

I flush coffee grounds down the toilet at work. My office is strange. It has a small bathroom that we use as a kitchen because someone put a fridge in it. We all agreed to not use it as a bathroom. The coffee grounds clog the sink, we don't have composting for the building yet, and the trash just creates a god awful mess. So we pour the grounds into the toilet and flush it about once a week.

Bet that would horrify any visitor that makes the coffee

We don't usually ask visitors to make the coffee. But it did horrify the cleaning lady when she started. We quickly explained what was going on and the look of relief on her face was priceless.

My dad use to do that. We would steer at toilet cinfused as to why there is corn in toilet.

I once flushed a crapload of leftover purple hair dye down the toilet. When I had a new cesspool put in, they noticed a small amount of the dirt was an unnaturally strong purple color. I laughed my ass off and they didn't know why.
