Is it normal to find outright feminism annoying?

Before you guess, yes I'm male. Big shocker right? Let me just throw this out before you label me as a sexist pig: I'm pro-choice. That's your body, not really any of my business. Now that we've gotten that out of the way...
Originally I thought feminism was a good thing. Women should be proud to be women, they should be empowered and so on. But if I say I'm proud to be a man, or that men should be empowered, blah, blah, blah, I'm labeled as a sexist. I like my porn; I stare at boobs, butts, bellies and legs. I won't outright fox-whistle/ holler at you, unless you and I are really good friends, and it's understood that it was expressed in a humorous manner. I don't believe all women are oppressed; I don't believe there's a patriarchy; I believe there are stupid women out there who have no idea what they preach. I believe women can be monsters, unfit parents, etc.
All that aside, even when I see on my news feed an assortment of feminist propaganda, I just get nauseated by it. Yes, yes I get it: "girl power!" now can you share something that won't subliminally try to shame me for having a penis?
I'm just trying to vent out my frustrations and asking if I'm alone here or are there others who share my perspective. Last thing: I want unbiased feedback, in other words, no feminist and no sexists.

Yes, I agree fully 24
Yes, but don't dwell on it 5
No, but then again to each their own 5
Sorry but I'm just not seeing it 11
Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

There's good and bad within every group - I'ce met some admirable feminists who genuinely want equal rights, and then I've met some dumb, racist, misandrist cunts I'd rather not see again.

    It's not just in feminism.

I prefer the term "gender equality" over feminism or masculinism.

  • I must be out of the loop when it comes to feminism. I don't see why people are so riled up about it...feel free to enlighten me.

Feminists are not necessarily biased :P I don't know what you expect to gain by removing feminists - the only people apart from genuine sexists who are likely to have a strong enough opinion on what you're saying to comment thoughtfully or seriously :P I won't vote on the poll though, if you like.

I don't think trying to subliminally shame people for having a penis is something that really happens, and if it does happen it's certainly not a definitively feminist thing to do; it's a definitively sexist thing to do. And if empowering women makes you feel ashamed to be a man, I can confidently say that the problem is you.

The stupidest are the loudest. This is no feminism - it's sexism against men. They don't know what to do with their anger, so they are sexist back.
That doesn't mean it's most of them, just the loudest.

I think law wise we are equal, socially wise not really. But we are getting there, and those sexist people - men or women - don't help at all.

Most of the feminists I know are male hating, spoiled brats with an unwarranted sense of entitlement that have no idea what suffering is.

  • Sadly, this site is being more populated with feminists, even when you give them points against it, and even when they can't support their stance, they will still support feminism, and it just does my head in.

Feminists claim that feminism is about equality, yet what issues are they targeting on male issues? The only times they focus on male issues is if it somehow benefits females or if is something that benefits men in the process of helping women.

People are foolish to believe that feminists "own" the concept of equality, that without branding your ass cheek with their hot iron, well then you can't be for equality. They think claiming "feminism is for equality" somehow disregards any criticism that heads their way regardless of that criticism opposing that very setence.

I mean, just look at how they deal with feminists that are sexist, hateful, harmful, and cause issues due to their actions (such as breaking laws, human rights, and so on to silence the university of Toronto to help boys and men), all they do is acknowledge them as sexists, they say "Oh, we're not like that, that's not true feminism"...Well, ok, but isn't feminism about equality and helping both genders? So just like you take action against people trying to take female rights away, you will take equal action against these claimed feminists trying to take male rights away and censor their freedom of speech?
...Apparently they don't need to. People need to take action against sexist misogynists that try to silence women and take their rights, but not when others are doing it to men, in their books.
They will distance themselves from these feminists, say they are wrong, and that's it...That's their idea of equality when they take action to help perserve female rights but merely acknowledge the rights of males are being attacked with no further action.

You could make a book filled with the hypocrissy of feminists, but feminists won't listen, then expect to still be seen as open-minded and seekers of equality.

It comes to a point where there is no point trying to go to feminists and say "If you are for equality, why aren't you doing this, why aren't you doing this?", because they only care about the female aspect of equality, otherwise men still wouldn't be able to get drafted, gain 40%-60% of prison sentencing than women for the same crime under the same circumstances, make almost half of the domestic violence victims yet less than 10% of shelters accept men (even Erin Pizzley, a former feminist that opened the first female shelter noticed how society is not willing to give help to men like women). The list goes on and on, and yet, untouched by feminists.

Again, I ask why I am typing this all out. Feminists can do no wrong, and if they do, well then they aren't feminists, and if they aren't feminists and are wrong, well if it's men being harmed by it, then ok, it's a problem, but not one they are willing to spend time on.

Saying these kinds of things around your girlfriend could get you killed XD

Joking aside, I agree in that I find it very frustrating when feminists claim to be for equality, but they don't give men's rights any thought. It's like their whole world view is based upon assumptions about society and men. Some feminists need to realize that though their problems as a gender may outnumber and be more serious than men's, men still have stereotypes and double-standards to overcome as well. The "macho/dominant man" role is forced upon a lot of men who don't naturally fit into it, and the affirmation of which might be the only way they feel any sense of self worth. Thousands of men are miserable and suicidal due to the fact they're not seen as "real" men because of their natural disposition. Men who bully other men, and women who reject and ridicule men for being "weak" are the cause of this problem. Equality is about realizing that all types of people have a place in society, and that gender isn't a perfect dichotomy. Responsible, intelligent citizens deserve power, gender aside.

Oh, and btw, not all feminists are pro-choice, and many pro-life people are liberal in every other sense. Abortion is a very fickle issue that is far from cut and dry, and it would do for many people to give it more than the casual thought you seem to have given it.

    (:

I’m a transman I agree 100 percent. I believe feminisms is just another way for women to put biological men down.
