Is it normal to find most people boring because they are uninformed?

I have never had a problem making friends. I consider myself likable, easy going, even charismatic. Suffice it to say I feel that I have adequate social skills. In fact, I approach people frequently being that I am a student journalist. However, I feel that most people seem totally programmed. I feel like no one cares about anything except for what is on T.V., who is the latest celebrity fad, or political fad, or sports. It seems hard to find anyone who has any real thoughts of their own. Basically, the TV or "main stream" media tells them everything they think they need to know. I just find that terribly boring. I don't care what a celebrity is doing or what new T.V. show is cool. Is it normal?

  • Everyone fancies themselves to be a well informed intellectual. Especially those you deem uninformed.

It's a difficult thing being able to grasp from between the senses and the world we perceive, that foreign substance called "truth" which is why it's never been in the way of the ignorant to recognize their ignorance.

And if they did they wouldn't be ignorant!

It's normal for someone in your area of life.

The fact is, you specialize in knowing what is happening. That is the career field that you are going into so of course you're going to stay informed, it gives you the edge and it is obviously an interest of yours. Just bear in mind that this isn't always the most common trait and usually requires some interest in said field.

And it's common trait to not have much in the way of critical thinking. It's not something that we are taught in schools and most students don't pursue their own intellectual desires outside of school so if it is not taught in the classroom, then they more than likely won't learn it. We're not all scholars.

That said, don't fault others much for it. I once studied law and the constitution for about two years but that was my major and my forte and it doesn't bother me much when people don't know basic legal principles and the media's relations with law, but it bothers me when they try to use their knowledge that they gleaned off of CSI or Law and Order as valid legal knowledge and opinion. I see this every time a major case (Casey Anthony) is televised and I'm like *facepalm*.

    Patience is a virtue.

It's normal for me. I'd have discussions with people and they'd just give opinions they'd read in the newspaper earlier that day. Ummm, that's not what newspapers are for. You're supposed to approach it with your own mind's filter, not just use it as your own opinion. I suspect a lot of people do this. Trying to get people to actually *think* something through is like herding cats.

  • I'm not like that at all. I just don't care about anything.

That's how vain the world has become.
