Is it normal to find it hard to enjoy electric wizard?

My nextdoor neighbour bought me an album for my birthday called "Electric Wizard" by an English metal band called... Electric Wizard. In fact, the album also has a song on it called Electric Wizard. Go figure. Anyway, the whole thing is SO boring to me. Boring, boring, boring! There's not a single moment where you can jump into the air and do an air guitar solo. When I put it into my CD Player I thought the CD Player was broken, but as it turns out, it wasn't. Honestly, their music style is like listening to a caveman push a rock up a steep hill. And then he gets to the top, goes "Ug" and pushes ANOTHER rock up the hill. Even the song "Mountains of Mars" which sounds like a background theme from Star Trek slowed down, is repetitive and amounts to nothing in the end. It is the best song though. Apart from that one slightly more imaginative piece, It's a HUGE disappointment, I was really looking forward to hear some good old-fashioned metal and the album cover art looked so promising, it has a hot woman riding a dragon on it with all these statues of people meditating. Is this normal or is there something I'm missing with this band?

    While I love EW, yes, they are an aquired taste.

    EW and their successor Ramesses are part of the drone/doom/stoner metal genre, given distinction by slow rhythmic meters and a fancy for ritualism (in EW's case, "satanic"...all in good humor of course).

    As 343Boy said, you need pot (and beer) to really enjoy this kind of music. It's best to put it on as background music with other slacker stoner intellectuals present while drinking and bitching about the idiocy of the world.

    Everyone has different taste in music.

    oh wait.. i was thinking of wizzard that did that terrible christmas song. never mind. but its still normal not to like a band. i find some music genres harder to get into, especially certain types of metal. sometimes though, once you listen to it a few times, it sort of " clicks" and you might start enjoying it :)

    Are they one of those bands with very long songs? Like, 9 minutes? I believe I heard that somewhere. I find prog music difficult to enjoy in general. The fact is, everybody has different musical tastes, and obviously this is normal.

    didnt they do that christmas song? but yeah, everyone has different music tastes and its normal to dislike bands or types of music.
