Is it normal, to find a strange white substance underneath your a/c?

It is quite late and as a result I was trying to go bed. I was having some difficulty doing so and suddenly I heard a strange "clicking" noise. It was loud and high pitched. At first I thought it was due to a mouse, but the I realized that it could be the A/C dripping. So, I got out of bed and walked cautiously over to the A/C to check on it. I turned it off and then turned it back on. It was then that my eyes went downward and I found to my horror a strange white substance stuck on the walls beneath it. I can't tell how much is there since the majority is behind my small bookshelf and in shadow. But what I have seen is disturbing and as a resultI'm shaking from it. I haven't the faintest clue how fucking long that stuff has been there, but I've been over to that spot many times before and I never saw it until now. As I stated before it's mostly white, but some parts have a "brownish" cover on them. It looks neither wet nor dry and it reminds me of a mass of webs, but I'm certain that these aren't webs. I'm completely baffled and worried that this might be a form of mold which may prove hazardous to my health. Now that I've seen it I can't unsee (I know it's not a word!) it. Once, again I wonder how I wasn't able to have seen it before as it's clearly visible from my doorway. I don't wan't to be able to see it as it frightens me, but I don't know what to do! Is this normal?! Please help!

Apart from the air conditioning itself, how well ventilated is your room? When temperature is controlled artifically, people often forget about ventilation (which is more important, if anything).

What you have there could indeed be some spore or mould. I'd get somebody to come and look at it and, in the meantime, don't sleep in that room.

I wouldn't say that it has good ventilation. There's also a radiator that's in the area so the colliding temperatures probably worsened the situation.

I got my mother to look at it, but she has no plans to have a professional look at it. She has a mold removal spray so hopefully that will resolve the issue. I unfortunately can't avoid sleeping in my room as there is currently no where else in the house that would be suitable for sleeping:/

Hmm, well, I'm not going to scare you with some of the nasties that can come from mould (luckily, they're fairly rare anyway). But whoever cleans it up should hold a cloth over their mouth and nose to avoid breathing it in. Go for overkill when clearing it up, too, especially if it's in an area that can get warm. Unless you get it all, it'll start growing again. Plus, be extra careful because it's in the presence of A/C. The illnesses mould can cause are usually due to being airborne and in a room with low ventilation, and being in the presence of A/C (which circulates air), it's really important to deal with this.

I don't want to see you getting ill from this. :/

Thank you, but I'm glad to report that it's not mould! Upon closer inspection I discovered that it was paint. The moisture from the A/C caused it to pucker.

Yay! I like it when something turns out to be nothing much. It seems like the world has righted itself somehow.

Yes, the captain who harpooned Moby the Dick told me. I didn't celebrate his birthday so he fertilized my virgin walls to get back at me.

That happened to me when my A/C burst. In my case, it was the oil from the refrigerant after the line broke. It also made a high pitched hiss when it happened so I knew exactly what happened. that sucked, and on a 104(F) day in July!
