Is it normal to fight to settle disputes?

In the middle ages people would have sword-fights to determine who was the better mathematician. Finally, 100 years ago duels fell out of favor.

Even now, people will escalate disagreements to the point of violence as a way to make the other back down. Is this a normal way to solve problems?

  • My brother and my cousins are like that. You can't disagree with them without being threatened.

Their version of play fighting is actual fighting. I am not joking. My big cousin knocked my little brother out on accident. My brother went to the hospital, woke up, and started laughing.

When he woke up he said " haha nigga ima beat yo bitch ass next time haha!"

They both just laughed it off. This happens once a week lolz.

Yeah. I thought that was supposedly the purpose of wars. Pfft, I don't know, I much prefer words. I can't see how having a sword fight would show your worth as a mathematician, so I don't really see the point of determining who is better at maths that way.
