Is it normal to feel very sad, then to have it go away?

Okay, this happens alot and I don't know if it's normal or not. Something might happen that triggers a really depressed emotion for me. For example today, I took an online quiz. The quiz was "Are you ugly?" PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT about being "hot" or "ugly." My depressed emotion is NOT always triggered by this subject, I just used this as an example because I think it's the easiest to explain. Anyway, the result I got was ugly, and that put me in the depressed mood BECAUSE it made me think of many situations and past experiences that happened to me having to do with that topic. When this happenss I start feeling really depressed, and I feel like I hate my life. This feeling can last from many hours to about 10 minutes. Is this normal? This happens alot with many different scenarios.
