Is it normal to feel upset about movie deaths.

I watched a movie the other day, where a young boy gets violently killed by a shark, he wasn't even a main character and had about 1 minute of screen time, but for some reason his death saddened me for about a day. I didn't feel anything like this for the other deaths, just the death of the innocent young boy, can anyone tell me why.. I know it's not normal.

Yeah. If you're getting emotionally invested in a fake person from a movie, that means you're watching a decent film. It's all part of the experience.

Yeah the film was brilliant, but it's the fact that I got 'emotionally invested' in a character that wasn't even in the movie for a minute before they died.

True, but maybe the actor/special effects were really good at convincing you it was a real kid that died, ect. Which means decent film. Either that or you're a tad more empathetic than everyone else or just don't like the idea of kids dying.

Never nice seeing a child die, whether it's in a non existent world or otherwise.
