Is it normal to feel unwelcome pride over weight loss?

This might sound like a stupid question but hear me out.

I went on a diet and have lost 20 lbs out of a total 35-40 lb goal. I feel proud of myself but I hate that I feel that way. I should never have gained the weight in the first place!! Why should I be proud over restoring mself to the proper physical condition?? Even though I disagree with feeling the pride it won't stop!! It's an uncontrollable feeling and I can't kill it!!

I feel like embracing the pride would be the same as shirking responsibility for the weight gain. So if you're going to suggest I accept my feelings then please address this aspect.

Thanks for reading!!

By feeling proud you're not shirking responsibiliy. It's clear from what you've written that you do still feel responsible.

You went through a bad time and now you're moving away from it, there's nothing wrong with feeling good about that.

There's nothing wrong with being proud of yourself. Pride is not a negative emotion. You should, however, be very careful about developing an eating disorder.

Just be happy you lost the weight and grateful you don't have don't have something like a thyroid disorder which would make it very easy to gain weight and very difficult to lose weight. Stop over analyzing all of this.

If you wanted to lose weight and you lost weight, then you successfully achieved a goal. Be happy. Don't brag to others and make them feel bad, but definitely be happy.
