Yes, sorry for your loss. Remember all the good times, and how happy you made his life.

Many people attach to animals even more so than they would a human. This has to do with the fact that pets are loyal unconditionally and often times could die of depression themselves if their owner dies. This has been shown mostly in cats and dogs.

I myself would be devastated over the death of my cat and I have no delusions otherwise.

It's completely normal. I'm 43 years old and I can still break down in tears thinking of the dogs and cats I've lost in the course of my life. Even as I write this my best friend, Andrew my Siamese cat, sits in my lap; my life is richer, sweeter and brighter because of him. My heart goes out to you and know that you are in my prayers, Bro! Try to think of Rocky as your guardian angel.

As many a stoner has said before, "Dog is God spelled backwards!"

Of course it's normal. I had to get my dog, which was a Jack Russell, put down, because he was blind, deaf, and we think he had a bit of dementia, so it was for the best. He was a stray, my cousin who was babysitting me found him by the recycling bins in the front garden, and when my mum got back in, the people said give it a week for the owner to report the dog missing, if no one claims him then we got to keep him. So I'd had him since I was 2, we got him put down when I was 15, and I cried for months and months every day. Still to this day I sometimes cry when I think of him. :( <3

Amen to that, they don't call dog man's best friend for nothing!

Whatever you age, the loss of a pet is traumatic, and by coincidence I had to put my 6 yr. old Shar-pei Rocky to sleep in lieu of amputating a leg, and I cried all day. I was 43. I still miss him and I talk to his ashes I had put in a box.
