Is it normal to feel that your family doesn't love you?

ive always felt like the "unwanted child".. you know, i did really well in high school and elementary school, and i never ever ever saw my father with any kind of pride towards me... im studying to be an engineer, and no one has really been very supportive. my mother and my grandfather are the pillars to my everything. and i might have self esteem issues because of that

Honey, I'm not going to go and say that "oh, of course your family loves you, you're just being a brat", because a lot of the time that isn't the case. I understand your position and I'm amazed that you became an engineer(!) but you have to accept the fact that family life isn't perfect, and sometimes you have to rely on yourself to make something of your life. I know it's tough, but you have to be strong to get through this. x

My family is the same way. But unlike you, I'm not going to be an Engineer I don't think. In fact...I don't even know yet what my plans should be.

well.. being an engineer or even studying to be an engineer doesnt mean my life is all sorted out anyway better than yours. if you must know, a year ago i was exactly where you were, planless!
but i assure you, things will sort themselves out. and one can always start a new family, cant we?
cheer up and get your Energies some positive light :)

Haha, yeah you're right! It's just what I'm trying to get at is to be an engineer you have to be extremly smart. And that's the part I'm kind of hazy on.

When the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
when you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.
Don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.

Sometimes everything is wrong. Now it's time to sing along.
When your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
if you feel like letting go, (hold on)
when you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on.

Everybody hurts. Take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. Don't throw your hand. Oh, no. Don't throw your hand.
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone

If you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
when you think you've had too much of this life to hang on.

    Well, everybody hurts sometimes,
everybody cries. And everybody hurts sometimes.
And everybody hurts sometimes. So, hold on, hold on.

I did become an engineer, and I felt my father was disappointed in me. Friends were the best help, but I longed for a happy family. I think JustSomeJerk (Ttc) said what you gotta do - hold on. I did. It strengthen me.

A lot of families are dysfunctional like that and it's a shame because I know plenty of parents that would have loved to have had kids that were intelligent and not completely sickly or criminalistic.
