Is it normal to feel that bus design and comfort have declined?

Years ago bus design was elegant and aesthetic. Now they're just like boxes on wheels. Seats used to be comfortable and panelling was capped in real wood. Now they look as though they've just been bolted together from kits rather than being coach-built, with visible rivets all over the place, hard moulded plastic seats, and hardly any leg room. Am I right?

Personally, my town has very good public transportation. I've been taking the bus to school since middle school till the end of high school. Honestly I've seen the improvements that has come about. I like it, however, it's not like it was bad to begin with. I do acknowledge though that perhaps not all places have nice public transportation.

And they're getting odly quiet. It ruins the privacy.

It is all about maximising revenue.

Bus companies are packing as many people onto buses like sardines in the process removing seats and/or reducing space between seats to maximise more standing passengers.
