Is it normal to feel singled out by the taste of your music?

For many years I have struggled with understanding the taste of other people's music. I'm fifteen and I am in to various genres. Blues, jazz, rock, metal, punk. It seems as though everybody in my school listens to the complete opposite. They listen to hip-hop (Now I'm not talking 2Pac or Biggie Smalls, they listen to Nicki Minaj, will.i.am, Tyga, Flo Rida), dubstep (Which in my opinion is awful), and many other genres.

What I'm trying to say is, I feel like music has changed. Everyone is in it for the money and not the thrill or passion. Everyone around me is in to awful music and I'm in to Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix.

Hmm, yeah this is very normal. >.< Like, I'm into metal, dubstep, country, reggae etc.. Mainly metal but yeah.. Everyone has their own taste in music, it doesn't mean to say you're the odd one out or you're weird or anything, but yeah.

It's, sadly, normal. I hate Nicki Minaj, Justin Bieber, 1D and all that crap. I swear people, just let others like what they like.

Don't flaunt it unless you can take a bit of teasing. My favourites are older, as are their songs, so naturally the people who also like them are too. I don't think I’ve met anyone younger who likes the same stuff I do apart from on the Internet. It used to bother me but now it doesn't. It's bloody expensive though....

I know how you feel. I listen to metal metal metal and my friends all listen to 1D and dubstep shit. I'm fourteen but we're being ourselves, so as Oli Sykes says 'Middle fingers up if you don't give a fuck'
    :)

*sigh* Yes, it is 100% normal. People shouldnt judge people for their taste in music. Its just uncool.

I know how this feels, I'm into music from the 70's and 80's and the only artists people ever heard about from these decades are the more popular bands. I'm more into the ones that are barely known today and it's hard to find anyone who likes the same bands/singers that I do. :( It's usually older people who like the music I like.

same here, but to be honest I doesn't really matter to me. I listen to subgenres of metal to me that's all that matters

That is only what people admit to liking.

Yeah, it's normal to think that the stuff you like is better than the stuff everyone else likes (annoying, but normal). So long as you like what you listen to it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of it, and so long as other people like what they listen to it doesn't matter what you think of it.
