Is it normal to feel sad for others?

Is it normal to feel sad when thinking about others inability to solve their own problems? Like my parents, my sisters, people that work with me. I wish I could solve their problems, but I cant and that makes me sad.

Sometimes I think I must be more selfish.

wow, I'm just like you. I am a guy but I feel the need to help others most of the time. I recently graduated and I am most likely going to go to college for psychology and I have a really sh*tty life!!!

I hope it is normal because I feel this all the time. I see people and I often try to help but in the end you can only help someone who wants to be helped. Even then it is not easy or sure.
