The way I feel is, if your born here you are American. That's it. African American are for African nationals that live here. It goes with any race. Describing someone by calling them black, white, brown etc. is fine. Don't let the politically correct Nazis get you.
What that guy said ^
Do you think black people refer to you as the caucasian or the european-american?
No. Stop being a pussy. This is America not Africa America. They are black. White ppl are white or do you feel the same way and call the caucasian ???
Our culture today deems anyone with views on race outside the accepted norms (which are artificially created) "racist." they have made this term about on the same level as pedophile. This is a stupid social construct (yeah race is not, but the this whole racist myth is) that denies real differences and feeds off peoples insecurities. I used to literally HATE racists. I stopped being friends with ppl for random thoughts spoken out loud. I was a "believer." I know EXACTLY how you feel. I would suggest watching the movie "A Conversation About Race" it's a really good and short documentry. I promise it wi ll change the way you view things.
I would say that this is normal. It is important to be respectful and acknowledge the negative connotations of some racial terms, but I wouldn't let it become a paranoia.
Just be aware, I suppose.
normal buuuutt...What would call a black guy from england huh? an african american? no, hes european. just don't say it in a demeaning way and there you go.
The double standards that exist in our culture are rediculous. How in the hell does it make sense for a white person to be wrong for calling a black person "black" (in a non hateful manner), but its socially acceptable for them to use and call eachother n**** in every other sentence. I can bet u my paycheck that they wouldn't dare use that word around their grandparents.
We're all a little racist sometimes. Whether we admit it or not, we all have had a racist thought against one race or another. If someone from another race pisses me off the first thing running through my mind is a slurr - I don't necessarily hate the whole race, but It makes me feel better to know that if they knew what I was thinking they would be more pissed off than I was
