I'm a white girl in Illinois. I know it may sound stupid.. but since the whole slave thing.. I'm ashamed to be white and I feel like I owe black people something. Im not personally responsible for what happened.. but I still feel bad. IIN?
That was hundreds of years ago. If we can just forget about it, then maybe everyone will finally forget about it.
Black people with a problem with it are racist. White people with a problem with it are just silly...
No, love. That's not normal... Who truely has ANY control over what their ancestors did? Life now is "complex" enough. That's not a burden you have to bare. If you ask me, this government should be the BIGGEST universal concern. With the price of gas and ALL of the pointless war, seems they don't care about ANY color ;)

As long as you didn't part take in slavery, what do you owe? But if you are passionate about civil rights don't linger on the past, work towards the future.
Why would you owe anyone anything? Beyond that fact no race is innocent if you were going to clump together in such a fashion. Black people sold other black people to white people and genocide happens everyday in parts of the world

There are many tragic events that have occurred over time that we are all as humans distantly connected to. It is ridiculous to keep the wounds of the past open by dwelling on them, or we as a society will never heal.
1)Modern Blacks actually benefit tremendously from the fact that their ancestors were brought here. Think about it.
2)Other races practiced slavery as well.
3)Crime statistics. Enough said.
most of them have absolutely nothing to do with slaves, or africa, or anything of the sorts. black people need to get the fuck over it, and you should not feel bad. those fucking racist bastards.

The sins of your ancestors are not your own. You should condemn their actions but do not feel responsible for them.
You should channel that energy into ensuring the equal rights and non-exploitation of black or any people at that everywhere
Don't fall for the race card. You don't owe anyone anything. What your ancestors did or didn't do doesn't reflect on you. Live for yourself.
Feeling sorry for the race is racism. you may do nice things for people but do them for all people not just blacks because of a thing you had nothing to do with. If a black guy is racist to me I can be racist back to him if I want. Slavery wasn't caused by me or even my ancestors. Don't fix what isn't broken, black people will probably get offended if you start giving them handouts because they're black.
You don't owe them anything. They need to get over slavery.. it was over 150 years ago! It sounds mean, but they, personally, have never been slaves and are just complaining to see what they can get out of it.
They deserved to be enslaved. They nearly outnumbered white people in the south during the time; there is no excuse for their not freeing themselves by violent rebellion.
A human being enslaving another person, tearing them away from their family, violently taking away their human rights, committing the crimes they did against them... it was definitely the worst thing in history. Of course you would feel bad.
But the best is to work towards having an equal playing field through equal access to education /health facilities so that everyone in this country can be the best they can be in their careers.
