Is it normal to feel like you don't belong in your home city?

Hi,

I'm 20, grew up for most of my life, 18 years in London, South. I know live in Birmingham, UK. Been here for two years, really like it here. But, every time I go back to London, I feel OBLEGATED to feel at home, you know? But every Londoner I've grown up with around me haven't shown the best love, even though i'm from there. I feel that I don't know where home is anymore.

Just wondering if it's normal, I mean, I know it is relatively, but for how long will I feel like this?

Anyway, thanks.

Just because you were born and grew up in a place doesn't mean it has to be home. Home can be anywhere you want it to be, it just may take a while to find it. When you find it, you'll know.

When I was 8 my parents & me moved to Portsmouth, UK, & I never settled, I didn`t like the town or the people because theyr`e crude & nasty, & also the stupidest people Iv`e ever encountered. All they want to do with their lives is get drunk, screw, fight, & make stupid children.

There is a saying; "you can never go home".
Raised in the SF bay area, it was a fantastic place in the 50's and 60's, but already by the time I left in 1970, it was changing very quickly.
When I went back to visit my Dad about 10 years ago, I knew I could never live there again.
When I was in high school, it was a 15 minute drive into the city from my Dad's house. When last I visited, it took almost an hour to get from his house to the freeway, never mind the next 45 minutes to cross the bridge into the city.
I'm not talking about commuter traffic; it was early afternoon.
California has gone to hell in a hand basket; too many people, too much traffic, food and homes are way too expensive and too many ridiculous and unenforceable laws have made respect for law enforcement almost a joke.
    What a shame.

It's normal. There is no law that says you have to enjoy living in your birthplace. Why do you think so many people move else where?

I do not like my city, nor my state or my country. I would gladly move if I could.
