Is it normal to feel like this for 3 years?

3 years ago,I fell madly in love with my best friend. She was my first love. It didn't work out,she only saw me as a "best friend",nothing more. It took me really, really long time to try to get over that. We're still best friends today.

However, while I feel like I'm over her,I can't/don't ask other girls out because I feel like I'd be settling for 2nd best, because it isn't her. I'd like to move on in my life, but it keeps holding me back. Like in the back of my mind I still wanna be with her.

is that normal? what can I do?

Even though its normal, it sucks. Try your best to just date anyone and maybe, just maybe you might find someone who interests you.

If you like her THAT much than you should NOT move on. It would sort of be like cheating cause you still have big feelings for this girl. You should tell her how you feel, than just act like you don't have feelings for her if she says she does not like you

I feel for you buddy, I'm in pretty much the exact same situation. I'm the best friend but I'm deeply in love with her. Everybody has pretty much given me the same advice they're giving you, and that's to distance yourself from her so you can recover, but I know how incredibly hard that can be. I find what helps me sometimes is going out with friends, just do anything to keep yourself distracted. It's going to be a long bumpy road, but it can be done. Good luck.

I think that u should move on...if she doesn't care about your feelings...than she doesn't worth you...you can still be with her best friends...but don't let her ruin your life

Take a break from your relationship. Just go out with ppl, eventually you will meet someone you like to get into a relationship with.

I would suggest even stop talking to her all together but since you claim you got over her then just try to go as much without her being around.
