Is it normal to feel like this after stopping?...

So I used to do meth, my ex got me started(my fault of course since I went along with it). I smoked for a week, started shooting up the next. Did it for about six months(almost blew my life apart). Got clean, a few months later, a friend I worked with asked me if I wanted to smoke some. Stupid me, I said yeah. After a whole bunch of legal problems and having to move back home, ive stopped entirely. Its been about a year. I still get bad cravings, and I feel like if I was offered some, I would do it again. I know meth is highly addictive, but is it normal having urges and worries about a possible relapse after that long?

    100% normal.

I had almost the exact, exact same experience as you. It's uncanny.

You can try NA meetings to find out ways to cope (you may already have experience w/this). It's very different than AA meetings, I've been to both.

I used to think I was exceptional and there was no reason to have to go to the meetings, etc. (it was for legal reasons), but once I was there I actually tried to get something out of it.

They said something like, "once an addict, always an addict" which I resented, but eventually I understood what they were saying.

Know yourself, know your limits and what you can handle, and go with that.

If you are lucky enough to have been clean long enough to not be going through withdrawl, suffering other latent physical/psychological symptoms or having it consume your thoughts most of the day, stay away. Do some kind of exercise routine when you think about it, and keep doing it until you forget. Exercise does the same thing for you, but in a much healthier way, obviously.

  • Yes it is normal. Ever wonder why you hear about reformed addicts avoiding certain people, places, and/or things to avoid the possibility of relapse?

Gay sex is the answer, you will be addicted but it is free at least.

It's been a year since I did a shot of heroin and I still think about it every single day. Even methadone hasn't helped curve the cravings, and I know it will be with me forever. Regardless of your DOC, once an addict, always an addict.

One of my friends told me it was strange that I still got cravings and was worried I could relapse :/ so I wasn't sure if it was really normal or not.

Unfortunately, it is normal. And worse, it can make some things seem boring. I don't ever want to be back there again because of all the negative.s. But I sure find some important things boring without the edge. Sad really. With someone could tell us how to ignite the spark of excitement without having to light a spark of something else.
