Is it normal to feel like the only person who does any actual work?

So, I have been in working in a particular sector for various well known companies for most of my working life and made my way up to a fairly senior grade. However, I was made redundant a few weeks back as the place I worked for went bankrupt. Sufficed to say it was a pretty stressful time for everyone involved. I have now taken a job that is a few rungs down the ladder at a similar place to keep the wolf from the door and take a breather. Trouble is I am getting increasingly annoyed and tense at my colleagues (though I don't say anything to anyone). They seem to spend most of the time joking, mucking about and avoiding doing actual work. The former-manager in me can see a thousand things wrong with the place. I don't want to tread on anyone's toes and it is not for me to tell the managers how to do their jobs as frankly I am not paid to care but it is so frustrating. Nobody seems to give a ****. Does anyone have any tips for staying sane til a better job comes up elsewhere?

You're taking a "breather"! Just keep telling yourself you've been placed on "light duty" temporarily. You are not being paid to be in charge on this job, or to care. We all have to do jobs that go against the grain sometimes. Suck it up! This experience will make you a better manager when you get hired back into such a position. In job interviews you can promote yourself as being better qualified now than you were before because of this step backwards.
    Good luck!

You're used to being a manager...it's hard to be a sheep and hang out with the herd when you were once a shepherd. Keep looking for a managerial job, in retail anywhere. Managers are in high demand.

Serenity "Prayer" has good guidelines: if you can change it, change it if you can't accept it, but you need a bit of wisdom to know the difference.

I can understand this feeling... You were a manager before, right, and now you can see what's wrong but can't correct it. Seems like you're overqualified for the job. You're not being paid for it so just don't care but if you really want you could put your proposals forward.
