Is it normal to feel like nothing is real?

Everything seems unreal to me. I could describe reality as a dream or a simulation. Everything seems 2 dimensional and plastic. It doesn't make a difference if this is real or not because I wouldn't do anything differently whether or not it is. Reality is nothing but perception.

Sometimes I think that music is one of the only things that helps me feel alive.

I agree. The whole of human society feels plastic and unreal to me. I get no sense of reality from what most people call life- a job, a house, a family etc. I think it is because we are so insulated from Nature by modern buildings, towns and cities and our whole way of being is unnatural: Nature recycles everything. But further, I think our souls are connected with the Earth so although we may not physically witness deforestation etc, our souls know it and it is like a foundation of existence being undone.

I think those that feel this way are more "normal," more humane than those who don't, no matter what the numbers on either side are.

At random times, mainly when listening to music, my life and my environment feel pretty much surreal for no reason...

    • I love that feeling, I'd get stuck like that forever if I could.
