Is it normal to feel like an outsider around people my age?

I'm 20 and I feel like the average 20 year old people I meet (in university, or my friends' friends) are so different to me in so many ways; their sense of humour, what they talk about (mostly about other people), how they talk about it (their language and expressions often sound so fake and pre-made), etc. I have close friends with whom I feel totally comfortable and love to hang around with, but I cannot stand most people my age. Does anybody else feel that way?

Absolutely - In fact, I believe there is a quote for this:

"Great minds discuss Ideas, Average minds discuss Events, Small minds discuss People." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Yes, I can't agree more on that. I'm tired of people complaining about others and comparing themselve with others. Grow up and learn to take care of yourself.

I myself like to keep certain things private because I know how to take care of myself; I personally don't need help and if I did I would ask for it. People always think I need help when I don't, I'm not in high school anymore.

There is way too much drama and gossip.

Yes, I sometimes feel that way too but all you have to do is be a little open to how they interact with the world or something.

The same appears to have happened to me.
A whole lot of the conversations I hear are just gossip and many other things I can't be bothered to actually care about.
