Is it normal to feel like a piece of you is missing?

Alright, so I feel as if there is a vast empty hole inside my chest, just as if my soul has left where it was suppose to dwell. It is a very uncomfortable feeling, & I have it almost constantly. I feel as if I am holding on very tightly to any piece of 'soul' or anything that is there that I have left, & I am kinda afraid to just relax or whatever & have it leave. It started like the beginning of this year, I suppose. I'm sorry if this sounds silly. >.< I am very confused on how to make this feeling go away or what this even is.

Your soul seems to be calling on you to do something or perhaps remove yourself from some negative situation. Maybe you are lacking love, communication, friendship...only you know that. Spend enough time to yourself and you will figure it out, what it is you must do. Call out to a higher power and ask for guidance (even if you are atheist because whether or not there is a God you still have a higher self). The forces will lead you when your heart is pure. When you are on the right path you will feel it in your soul (it will be jumping for joy) and the world may give you signs.Enjoy the challenge of life. Even when you are on the right path you have obstacles to overcome, so don't let them get you down. Take care.

I do have depression, but I take anti-depressants. I've been pretty stressed with school lately, but I don't think that is the reason.

Anti-depressants interfere with your hormone balance, and that means they will have psychological side-effects that aren't always desirable. Not all anti-depressants work well for everyone. Maybe you should change to a different drug and see if it improves how you feel. Tell your doctor or psychiatrist or whoever prescribed you the drugs how you feel and they'll probably be able to recommend something for you.

I started taking them middle of last year. Can side-effects start at any time?

I take anti depressants too. Missing one pill turns me into a monster and angry. It messed up my hormones and pretty much my life. Id talk to your doc about it..they're evil.

yeah i agree, anti-depressants fucked up my uncle and he was in his 40's. He was sorta loopy at my highschool graduation and later he drank Laundry detergent in a attempted suicide.

I'm rather weary of all drugs, let alone happy pills. so im with Dom. bring it up with your doctor and ask him for advice or if it may be a warning sign.

I say take hugs, not drugs, but either way wish you luck OP

I also forgot to ask about your daily routine. You're probably in a rut if your routine is the same thing everyday. You probably need to change things a little and see if the feeling goes away.

It sounds to me like you're heartbroken over something.

I don't really know if that is it, I have been heart broken before, but it's nothing like this.

If you are on medication, try weaning yourself off of them and switching to herbal medicine which, is safer and quite effective. While I'm not sure if I was ever put on any anti-depressants, I do remember being put on, what I think was, Zoloft for anger and defiance. Big fucking mistake that was! I almost ripped my eyes out from hearing voices due to the medication.

That is the same medicine I am on. Although, it works wonders for me! To be honest, I really don't think it's the medicine giving me this feeling. But I am not sure!

Do you do any creative hobbies, like art? I was advised to try taking up art again and for the first time in a long time, I felt identifiable emotions, the kind of emotions where I didn't have to ask myself what it was that I was feeling because, I knew. It felt great. It was almost as if a huge weight fall off of me.

I know exactly what you mean. I think that at least two of holes came from 1. Me giving up art and 2. Being unable to learn music as a child. Well, I'm going to go back to art and try to master music again so, that should fill those holes up and hopefully make me a happier person. I've got other emotional holes and I'm currently working on filling them back in.

If you are not starving yourself, you might want to go to a doctor. These sorts of feelings in your core could very well be a warning that something in there is not right.

Starving oneself is also a good reason to see a doctor.

we all have pieces missing. but then you find other people who have pieces missing and you fill in their missing pieces and they fill in yours and then your not so lonesome.

You sound depressed. I am not sure how to tell you to fix this issue without any background though. How do people treat you normally and did something traumatic happen recently? It sounds like you've had a significant loss of something you deeply care about.

Yeah I felt like that too but it stopped after I decided to take a vacation in a hostel or to use the proper term "Journey to Find myself."

Yeah a piece of me is missing as well.

My arm was blown off in the war in Nam. Does that count?

You have to do the things that make you happier more, you need to occupy more of your spare time with things that provide fulfillment to you. Cherish your love ones. Give time and friendship to those who provide quality companionship. Don't dwell on negative experiences of the past. Always have something to look forward to. I think in this way you can become a fuller individual.
