Just do your thing. If you find a girl attractive, there is no shame in glancing or giving a pretty girl attention. It's the random comments like, "Damn shawty, let me X that @#%" that annoys people. Male or female. If someone is abrasive and offensive, that's when they are assumed to be a pervert.. lacking social skills.

Staring is fine, as long as you're not receiving a snarl in return. When guys stare at me, smile or compliment me and my body -- I never act offended or think they're acting like a pervert.
I only feel uncomfortable when someone will start to cat-call, in a large group or make incredibly crass comments.

If you're a little self-conscious, due to weight gain, do not let it dictate your thoughts in public nor ruin your perception of how everyone feels about you looking.
