Is it normal to feel like a child?

I'm 23 and I have borderline personality disorder and some other things. I know regression is common with this disorder, but I never feel big. I always feel small, like I'm still a child playing at being an adult. I love toys and sleep with a bunch of plushies. I'm timid around strangers. I feel lesser and smaller than others, and find it hard to stand up to other adults. I speak in a high, soft, melodic, lilting voice and act with general submission. I can make big girl decisions, and I can be big when I have to be, but I almost always feel small.

I feel the same way. I have some unresolved trauma from when I was a child and sometimes I lose track of my age and think i'm younger than I am.

Don't we all? We're all just pretending to be adults tbh.

Were your parents narcissists by any chance?

Are you getting any treatment for your Borderline personality disorder?

No and no. Stepdad was abusive, though.

So would you say you came from a dysfunctional family?

The twelve step programs of Adult Children of Alcoholics and Dysfunctional Families as well as Codependents Anonymous can be immensely helpful.

Also you should ideally be in therapy. DBT which stands for Dialectical behavior therapy as well as STEPPS which stands for Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving are two types of cognitive behavioral therapies which are designed specifically for Borderline personality disorder.

Yeah, I need to start therapy... The doc suggested it to me, and was generally surprised that I can even function in society... It's just so out of the way. But yeah, I really should. Thank you.

            You are very welcome!

What can also be of great help would be for you to learn about mindfulness. Also you can Google how to self parent, and or inner child work.

I googled it, but I already do all that stuff. Hehe. I think I might be too connected.
