Is it normal to feel late about everything?

I was going through a few of YOUR guys' stories, and I noticed I felt similar. To one in particular. Buuuut, I feel like everything I've done was late. And I kind of want to blame my mom. I never really got into sports longer than a year, or any other extracurricular activities in school or anything. In fact, my music playing came later, and everything else did. I have no idea what I want to do with my life, career wise, but I feel that if I wasn't so late for everything, that I might have my idea. Is it a common conflict?

he's at an age of creativity and curiousity, , if he really enjoys plants, take him to the science center, let him be himself. There isn't that many kids who are so interested in the wonders of nature, let him explore the world, and nurture his interest and just let him have fun :)

  • I think most people would like to have had a bit more opportunity, support, & encouragement from parents etc.. But in the end it really is up to you to find what you love & love what you find. No parent is a magician that way. And, of course, most responsibility for the decisions we make lie with ourselves.

On the too late thing - it almost never is - especially when you are young. You might be wishing the future was clearer, but it really is yours to create.

I just feel like everything well...almost everything, has to be acquired at a much younger age. I don't know, like Dance. Great Olympic dancers started at so young. Haha not that I want to dance, it's just been a thought.

Ha, I feel the same way as you do. But don't blame anyone cuz I think that's just the way you are. My mom actually wanted me to have piano lessons when I was small, but I didn't like it and quit. Only now do I develop keen interest in music and although it's never too late to learn, there are things that just should be started earlier.
Let's hope that you'll also die later than everyone else... so take your time.

I'm pretty sure what you're saying is exactly what I'm feeling right now. I play the french horn, and I haven't gotten serious about it until just this last year. I'll be starting work of my Bachelor of Music next year in College. I'm not that bad right now, definitely not good enough to set the world on fire, but it just bothers me knowing how much better I could be right now if I had just started earlier, took lessons earlier, or took more opportunities to play outside of school earlier. In anything like music or dance, the best people out there start when they're 4 years old, and it's really discouraging to start when you're older, and I say that being only 18 years old. Hopefully I understood what you were trying to say, and if I did, I think it's pretty normal.

I think a lot of people feel "late" at some points in their life. You often read things referring to feeling like that, or being left behind in some way.

Don't worry though. What's important is where you are right now and what you've done in respect to yourself, no-one else. There's no point mulling over the "what ifs." You'll figure things out.
