  • You're not that smart; you're family and friends are incredibly stupid.

Maybe you are intellectually superior to most. Some are.

Just as some are physically or emotionally superior to others in competence, it is possible to be intellectually superior.

I find it interesting that a majority of the responses, are sidestabs or incentives to make you appreciate others more. I don't know how much you appreciate people. It doesn't even matter to me. You can be intellectually superior and appreciate people more than most or less than most.

I don't know if you are intellectually at a high compentence. If you are making that assessment as adult with a 3rd college degree and write camly and clear about it, then you probably are in my assessment.

Because someone is superior or inferior does not make them any less or more human, we are literally all of this species with its limits and fighting a battle in life. But some ARE intellectually superior or inferior, and in any other area where there is competence, and an assessment of ability is always a subjective opinion. Due to the variance in people, you could in a simple way say that about half of the people is intellectually superior to the others, in someones opinion which could be a better or worse assessment.

Just as some are physically or emotionally superior to others, some are intellectually superior. The method for which you assess that, and the arguments with the subjective weighting of different human characteristics, prescribe who is superior and inferior, with good or bad methods in a subjective opinion.

Some are superior or inferior to others, and it is an opinion like all other evaluations that are based on different criteria with different meaning.

I think you probably are intellectually superior to most

  • I hope you don't think going to college is what makes you intellectually superior. Unfortunately, I would have to look down on you if that were the case.

I think it is normal to observe and think about others' actions that you feel are foolish. Some people don't think about the same things as you might. Your priorities and the decision that you make are probably very different, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad people and they shouldn't be treated as such (I am not trying to say that you do). I just mean that you should attempt to respect their actions and decisions but if you really feel they are wrong, you can question them to discover their motivations and share constructive ideas.

Anyways, sorry for such a long response that might not totally be relevant but it is normal for you to feel a sense of pride in your own decisions and for others' decisions to, on occasion, stir up an anger inside of you.

Not a teenager. A grown adult. But the only one doing something with their life, currently completing my 3rd degree. Most of my friends and family are working limited skilled labour or pushing out more babies.

I know how you feel. Its normal. Its the people that are arrogant and cocky about being intellectually superior that tend to have lower IQ.

Fools think about people. Students think about events. Masters think about ideas.

  • What does amaze me is the amount of people that got annoyed by this question... Have to wonder if they see themselves in the story or are just insecure?

Maybe you are smarter than others. Everyone has different gifts, if that's what you want to call it. So it's normal. What's not normal, and is just plain annoying, is being arrogant enough to post a story about it on here

  • I'm surprised no one mentioned the spelling and lack of apostrophes...

The only way to really know how "intellectual" or "smart" you are is to take an IQ test.

But just know that there are many different kinds of smarts and different people are clever in different ways.

You are absolutely right that there are many different types of intelligences. And that's why something as simple as an IQ test could never measure how knowledgable/intelligent a person is. It just doesn't include everything.

The theory of multiple intelligences by Howard Gardner has some great information on this.

    • Doing well on an IQ test just shows how well you do on an IQ test. And it doesn't indicate intellectuality.

Most people I know with a genius IQ are as thick as a brick. One I know said in 2005 "housing prices could continue trending upward perpetually."

      Yeah, you're smart...sure.

      • That's pretty accurate actually, I have a somewhat above average IQ and it mostly shows in knowing lots of useless trivia and having an obnoxious and generally unpleasant disposition.

          • Honestly, honey, ever since I first saw your posts, I've thought you were a little dumb. By the way, spouting stuff at me in Latin, wow, I'm so impresssed.

Anyone can learn a language, I could type a sentence in French or Spanish here but I won't because unlike you, I know such things aren't indicative of shit. Oh also, insults about weight, damn, you're so original, Oscar Wilde's got nothing on you in terms of wit!

But trust me, my ass has nothing on the size of your mouth.

            • I'm blonde, so any impression you have of me is likely influenced by your prejudices.

If my bad latin impresses you, you really need to get out more.

Not anyone can learn a language, not even as a first one. See how many people have problems communicating here.

Shit is shit, and indicates shit. No shit?

Oscar Wilde is dead. But I can get you his fax number.

Lastly, nice try at deflection. Your defense of IQ tests remains unsupported and inadequate.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
        • IQ tests are not only riddled with gender, cultural and racial biases, they are, as a matter of fact, dependent on them. Problems in predictive validity, construct validity, along with test item bias, all make IQ tests simple exercises in intellectual masturbation.

To be or not to be, isn't that the question?

et suppositio nil ponit in esse.

I wouldn't say you're an ass for feeling that way, but maybe they're not being serious when they make those idiotic remarks. Remember, you don't have to be serious all the time. And if they are being serious then, I don't know. Maybe you have reached a higher understanding that they haven't yet, or you just think that you know it, but you don't.

Everybody sees things from a different angle. Maybe they see things differently then the way you would, so it makes you feel like you're way is the best way, leaving you feeling smarter.

That happens at school. I'm in 7th grade, but I already know everything and so I just sit there and the teachers don't care, and when the kids answer it wrong and no one can get it I sigh loudly. I'm too shy to say it out loud though so usually if I really care, I'll tell someone the answer and trull be the one to say it out loud.

Yep, your are kind of an ass. But if you truly are as smart as you say you are, there is hope for you. Just be careful with those judgments you pass around or you wont have any friends. Who wants to be super smart yet bitter and alone?

Everyone has their niche in this world. The people who work for three degrees and get smart, the people who do hard physical labour ( perhaps with no degree whatsoever) and then the people who "push out babies" as you put it. Humans need all these people in order for society to function. You may have a higher IQ than most people, but it doesn't automatically put you higher than anyone else.
