Is it normal to feel guilty for being happy?

I'm in stress and anxiety most of the time. I constantly try techniques to relieve stress, after which I of course feel good. But then I think "no, being happy, free and laid-back is wrong. Every normal person has stress in their lives.", and I sink into negative thoughts and shut down again. Is it normal?

I often have similar feelings. I've had depression for many years now and grown used to being depressed the majority of the time. A lot of times when I start feeling good I will get a guilty/bad feeling that I shouldn't be happy or I'm being too happy and I should bring it down alot. I don't have a problem with others being happy, but I feel like I am not supposed to be happy. Ever.

Well that's certainly not not to feel guilty if you feel happy but I do think it is common...You just have to remember that when you are happy, you do deserve it and everyone has stressful days. I too have suffered from anxiety/stress and panic attacks so I totally see where your coming from.

hahahaha so you are not really happy, but just for a while due to your techniques... I came here to tell you there's even a book entitled "I feel guilty for being happy". I haven't read it, but I guess it's about actual happiness (I mean the one that comes on its own and doesn't have to be induced).
