Is it normal to feel guilty because of a religion you used to be in?

I grew up in a religion for 18 years.. Left it... Rebelled for 7 years.. An now I'm growing up, starting a family and feel like I am going against god because I am not part of a religion... Even though i know how uncertain the theory of god will always be in my mind. I'm not doing anything wrong but I sometimes get this guilty feeling that I am..... Damn religion.

I'll try to make this as short as possible.

This issue took me from believing in God, to Buddhism, to atheism and back.

    Let's think loud,
NO tangible proof of God's existence.
NO tangible proof of God's NON-existence.(even after a glimpse at The Grand Design by Stephen Hawking).

    So,
Let's be smart, play it safe and minimize the risk of both possibilities.
We don't have to be the Pope nor Richard Dawkins. We don't have to be Bin Laden nor Christopher Hitchens either.

    So how to do it?
The three Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) are said be sent by God, hence lower risk than Buddhism and other religions. I read the Bible, Torah and now I'm reading the Quran. Let's see which one makes the most sense of the three and I'll practice the LIGHTEST version of it. So the final result will be....

Richard Dawkins ------- Me ------ The Pope or Bin Laden.

I know both the atheists and religous will attack me for this.

Look, I'm not an atheist and I fully accept that fact that there COULD be something higher than us. Wether it be a god or the fact we're an alien test tube experiment.

But I don't believe that you have to go to church, sing songs and do some bollocks prayers to be seen as good in the eyes of god. You simply need not to be a cunt.

Forget god, And just be content with the fact that your a decent guy (Or girl). And as for the rebelling. If there is an all loving god, Do you think he wants religion to be forced on people?

  • You probably feel guilty because your parents brought you up that way and you feel like you're betraying them.

Try researching the platforms of different religions. Perhaps you will be able to find one that you can base your beliefs in.

Religions love to instill guilt. Believe in God if you want to. I grew up catholic and it took years to shed their installed guilt. God is not just in churches. Did God want us to segregate ourselves. No. Man came up with that one. It's really ok to not belong to a religion. I've been shunned by some people because I don't go to church anymore. It's their problem. I'm much happier now.

God isn't real. So you shouldn't worry.
