Is it normal to feel guilty after download music torrents for free?

I grew up buying music and I still do. But lately I've been getting a lot of my music from pirate bay and other torrent sites. I'm a DJ and collector so I'm constantly finding new music, it's just that I couldve never afford to purchase ever album that I own (hundreds)

Just because everybody else does it, that isn't really a good moral standpoint, it is just blind conformity. I tried it once, but I just felt bad about it because I have enough money to buy the music that I want without stealing it, so I stopped downloading torrents.

I'm the same. There were loads of books I wanted so I went down to the bookstore, took them off the shelf and then just walked out without paying.

I think this is morally superior, though, because at least the author still gets paid for his work (the bookstore bought the book and I'm only stealing from them, rather than the people whose work brings me pleasure).

No, because the store can't sell the books anymore.
When you pirate, at least they can still sell copies.

I think you missed the point slightly. Why care more about the shop that sells you a copy of an item than the creative mind which produced it?

The creative mind got the money because the shop purchased the books they were going to sell.

True, but print runs only accelerate and shops only buy larger stocks when things are proven popular with the public. I still think the shop as a middleman isn't the driving force behind music sales.

It requires a lot of time and financial resources to record good quality music and it's always best to support the artist for their product. If you download a song for free you're only being exploited by people who benefit from your downloading traffic on their website.

If the majority of the CD is quality I will pay for the album and support the artist. If one song is good and the rest is shit I will download for free.
I mean whats the incentive for producing quality albums ...... for a while there (before online downloads) some artists werent exactly putting fourth full effort (in my opinion)
