Is it normal to feel guilty about moving out?

Ok so I'm a sophomore in college and have been living at home while taking classes. My commute is about 20-30 minutes (depending on traffic) and it's definitely not a horrible commute. However, it can be quite inconvenient at times. My cousin lives about an hour away from campus. We both decided that we would get an apartment together and ended up signing our lease to our new apartment just a couple days ago. Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited and grateful we found a reasonably priced one close to campus. I'm also happy to be able to have more freedom, but I still feel guilty about leaving my family. I'm the first born plus my mom is just an emotional person anyways, so I'm really not looking forward to all the crying and such. I'm only going to be across town but I still can't help feeling guilty... especially with my emotional mom. Is this normal? xD

  • Yup, in a similar situation to you. Just remember that your mum loves you very much and wants to do the best for yourself in life and develop into an adult as well as possible. Although she'll be sad to see you go, that you are moving on into adult life and maturing successfully will be something she's very happy about.

Yes it is normal, but people have to move on. You have your life to live. Family is important, but being fulfilled is very important too.

You don't have any reason to feel guilty, so don't worry.

I moved out of my parents from an argument. I moved back in just to move out on better terms. that was still drama. guilt is normal, but not recommended.
