Is it normal to feel guilty about eating after someone has died?

I recently found out about a friend who died in an accident and feel terrible about it. At first I felt sick to my stomach and couldn’t think about food, but the next day I was hungry so I bought breakfast. As I ate it I felt kind of ashamed, almost like “how can you be eating when someone you care about is gone?” This time last year, I also lost two family members in one month and remember feeling the same.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

It's awful that they died. But you are alive and you are entitled to go on living. You need to eat to live. Continuing your life is not disrespectful. It's life.

Thats why I dont attend funerals.
    Even in my own family.
A funeral should be a celebration of life.
The best option I read was in a book.
    It covered an Irish wake.
I like the idea of a week long party.
Drinking, eating, remembering, and making love.
    Life gos on.
If folks want to mourn and cry, or starve themself.
they arent welcome at my funeral.
Enjoy eating, because the dead no longer can.
