Is it normal to feel guilty?

I lived in a home with sevral roomates, age 18-23. It was in a rual area and everyone was afraid of a fire distroying the town. One day a dude from the local fire station came by and said we should cut down the dry trees and shrubs on the property. He offered to help. We told him we had to clear it with the management company. We tried to get the 2 in contact with each other but nothing happend and I moved out a few months later.
However while I was there I had some sweet old neighbors who kept there property spotless! Totally fire safe.
Anyhows, 2 months later (after I moved) the worst happens, a massive fire distroys over 200 homes. It started a block from that house. My old home went up like kendling. And so did the elderly neighbors home. However it stopped there. I feel soooo guilty whenever I think of the fire. Like it's my fault it spread past my home. This was a few years ago and I can't shake this feeling of guilt for the elderly couple. Is it normal to feel guilty for this.

Well the millions of dollers had absolutly nothing to do with me. The fire started down the road. My former home was at the edge of the zone. The only affect my place may have had, was on that one neighbor. I was gone for a few months prior to, but I didn't remove some dry trees. I figured it was the managements job. Now I feel I should have pushed the issue. It could have saved 1 home.

Kinda sounds like survivors guilt. You lost nothing but you are aware this didn't have to happen. But this was the responsibility of management not you. Everyone is alive and that's what really matters!
