Is it normal to feel ghost limbs of a body that isn't human?

Ok, I imagine this is going to sound quite odd, but bear with me here. For a long time, probably dating back to middle or early high school (21 year old college senior now) I've felt ghost limbs. I'm not an amputee, but what I feel are long ears, a muzzle, a tail and legs of a more humanoid shape.
I can't think of any logical explanation for this, and since then have tried to figure out what that body would look like, through art and costuming. But how can I feel something that clearly isn't there and shouldn't exist?

interesting, I can't say that I've ever heard if this before. maybe you're remembering a previous life?

  • You could be the reincarnation of an Ancient Egyption God, one of the dog one's by the sound.

Pretty strange, but like Ang suggested it could be a past life. Maybe try a psychic or similar?

    Isn't sarcasm grand? :)

Hmm.... I'm not sure but this does sound familiar. At first, I was thinking that you had Alien Hand Syndrome but I don't think that's it. I think it's either a form of Depersonalization or like Ang said, a remnant of a previous life. I've had some curious experiences with what I think was a form of Depersonalization. I have never felt the "body parts" you have felt but I felt like, how to put this, almost as if I was "brushing" against something that was both solid and not there. The feeling reminds me of a part in The Golden Compass (His Dark Materials Trilogy) when Lyra and the Gyptians are in the North and on there way to Bolvangär to save the kidnap children. The Witch's daemon, I can't remember his name, is on the boat and his is talking about how in the aurora the boundaries between this world and others are very thin. To demonstrate what he means the Goose outstretches his wings and states that he has just touched over a 1 million different galaxies. What if what we are feeling is something like that? I know it sounds like I've wandered deeply into the realms of Science Fiction but anything possible. Other feelings I've gotten with this is the sensation like I'm floating. Like I'm neither alive nor dead and I'm just floating between these two concepts. Time becomes slowed down and my surroundings and anything else that I should be acquainted with suddenly feels foreign.

Oooh, I so love that you referenced His Dark Materials, I absolutely love that series. The funny thing about it is as crazy as a lot of that stuff sounds it's got some basis in science... I snagged this awesome companion to the trilougy at one of those discount warehouse stores that goes into the physics behind the sci fi.. fascinating stuff.

The floating sensation... is it like you just become unaware of your body? I've experienced something similar, I wouldn't always call it a floating... but it's like, first I feel myself kind of recede out of my limbs.... If I sit perfectly still and don't break the meditative state eventually it will feel like my whole body is cased in stone, if I keep it up long enough I just kind of don't feel my self anymore. I've read about people feeling similar right before astral projection. I *think* I've projected before, at least there have been times meditating where I feel a sensation of flying out of myself... last time it happened it felt like I was just shot out of a cannon and I got nervous and sat up.

Outside of all the trippy mindfuck stuff though, depersonalization would still make sense too. ^^; That's what one of my skype friends suggested.

I'm surprised this is still getting comments, this is the first story I ever posted here. X3

I'd pay damn good money to see the acid that could replicate these effects. This is something I've had as long as I can bloody remember.

Haha, like I said in a comment up above, there's this weird condition called clinical lycanthropy. Apparently I'm kind of lucky, there are people who feel full fledged animal bodies out there.

Hah. I did some research, I'm guessing it's something called clinical lycanthropy. Which just makes me wonder, how the hell did I end up pulling *that* particular short straw of the gene pool? >.O

Not really, though I found a really interesting article linking schizotypal personality to intelligence and creativity, which could also help explain me. I know self analysis is bad, I was gonna ask my counselor next time I see her since she's more schooled in such things. ;P (long story, one of my other posts touches on it. abusive relationship, childhood abuse and some other shit tossed in)

This is the other shit I was talking about. It's kind of a long read, really in depth, but I feel it was worth it.

Sometimes I get a feeling that I have a second penis. Seriously. It's a strange sensation, but it only lasts for maybe ten seconds then goes away.

Haha, maybe. :p I promise I'm not a troll, not too sure if I'm crazy or not. X3 if nothing else I figure there's gotta be some kind of weird psychology behind it; I really don't know what to even compare it to as a starting point to figuring out the cause

At first I thought it was very freaky, then slightly humorous, but then I thought (if this is true, and you're not being a troll), maybe you could go to some like scientists or something. Or maybe a psychologist that could record what happens to you. Maybe it's some cool genetic trait in a human never discovered before. I mean, if you're not lazy, a troll or crazy, you could make a good discovery. :)
