Is it normal to feel fine after getting little sleep?

So, for the past three days, I've gotten very little sleep. I'm talking around 3-4 hours each night for the past few days.

However, I actually feel MORE energetic than I would if I got my typical 6-8 hours of sleep!! I am exercising regularly and feel fine...and I don't feel the urge to sleep during class. (Well, okay, my biology class always makes me a bit sleepy because it's so boring, but that's normal.)

Right now it's 12:30AM and I plan on staying up until 1:00AM or 1:30AM. I'm wide awake and want to browse the 'net even though I have homework.

Totally normal, it depends for each person though. And of course, it's also really bad for you.

I'm probably not saying this right, but i think your nerves are reacting to the lack of energy and your body reacts by overproducing the neurotransmitters (or something other) which makes you feel awake and alert. But it's basically producing energy off of nothing so while you feel fine now, when you finally crash, you're probably REALLY going to crash.

Although, being an insomniac myself, I'm probably being a real hypocrite right now.. Sorry about that..

    • I dunno, I never really crashed. After another night of sleeping only around 3 hours of sleep, I slept a nice 7 hours the next night (still had to get up the next morning). So now of course I'm refreshed.

For some reason it seems like I haven't needed to sleep as much lately. Although tomorrow I'll probably sleep for 12+ hours as I always do when I don't have to get up in the morning. :P

If you really aren't tired, you might be someone who requires less sleep to function naturally. One's ideal time to sleep might be nine hours, while for someone else it's four.

I don't know if it's healthy or not though.

Yes, it's normal. It's not healthy though getting so little sleep. You may not feel this or realize it but your body needs more rest.

I've done that before, and in a couple of days I always ended up over sleeping.
