Is it normal to feel extreme sympathy toward inanimate objects?

Here is an example. I just got out a cigarette and noticed it was bent so I put it back and got a different one. After doing so I felt bad for the one I put back. Like it would be sitting in the box on my floor thinking, "Aw man, I'm not good enough". This happens to me probably more frequently than I realize. Please tell me at least someone else gets it...

My teddy bear fell in the water and a shark ripped his leg right off. I felt so bad that I had allowed this to happen. Only last week I was saying how I should put up netting around the boat, so none of them could fall overboard.
We had a nice burial at sea for him, but I can tell that all my other stuffed toys miss him terribly. Me too.

when i were a kid i anthropomorphized stuff sometimes

i think it stemmed from how kids stories are written and how they gave stuff personalities

nowadays stuff is the enemy and i happily smash it burn it and chuck it in the trash as soon as its value is gone

Also, I've read the other comments that you've posted on this site and why don't you do the internet a favor and find a new hobby. Clearly this site is not for you.

I have a fox shaped coin bank who's paint chipped recently. I felt bad for her and I said "I'm sorry Katharine."

Also, this post reminds me of a YouTube video I saw a while back about a robotic dog. People in the comments section were unhappy with the fact that one of the dudes in the video kicked it.

You've got nothing to worry about. Your feeling is normal.

Not as frequently as when I was a child, but yeah, it still happens to me sometimes.

I remember having so much empathy for my torn shoes that I cried. It was my first conscious cry. I think I was four.
