Is it normal to feel depressed from inspirational talks?

Inspirational talks and stories tend to have to opposite effect on me. Instead of inspiring me, it makes me depressed because it makes me more aware of how much I've wasted my potential as a child prodigy. Does anyone else feel that way? Is it normal?

Oh, God, I hate them! Who are they aimed at? Who gets anything out of them? I try to listen to the speaker but I'm constantly aware of what (s)he's trying to do (and failing at). It's all such a sham. The few people who are great at it don't waste their time giving talks to the likes of me.

I actually like them sometimes. I guess it's just the type of personality you have. I'm not a very self-motivated person.

I know tell me about it. After those ‘inspirational’ talks I leave feeling inadequate and that they have had the complete opposite effect on me. I know that they are supposed to inspire you to do better and be a better person I guess, but they make me truly realize what a failure I am. I will never be able to live up to the unrealistic expectations that they try to impose. More times than not, I often feel a sense of acrimonious disappointment which can be detected rather easily if you care to look at the gloomy expression on my face after those ‘inspirational’ talks are over.

I want to be retired not inspired. Motivational speakers piss me off so bad. I hate employment advertisements. Are you multitasking teamplayer who is an energetic go getter? You gotta be kidding me!

They give me enough motivation to say "tomorrow, I will change things".

When tomorrow comes, that rare and sought after motivation is long gone.
