Is it normal to feel bad for animals?

I know I may sound like a hypocrite, because I like meat, goat, chicken, bacon etc.. But I cant stand seeing any of those animals to be slaughtered.. I only eat those that are bought, but I can never eat meat from any animal that i've seen alive personally.. I just feel so bad seeing those animals slaughtered for our enjoyment.. Iin?

I'm vegan for cruelty and health reasons. Factory farming is like a horror movie. It amazes me how wound up ppl get when they learn of my personal choices that have no effect on them at all. I'm not evangelical about my choice I don't give anyone any trouble about there choice to eat meat or dairy so its baffling why they care about mine.

I certainly think we need to be eating LESS meat, mainly because you can harvest a LOT more crop-based food than meat on the same about of land. There would be more food to go around and a lot less people going hungry if we all switched to a less meat-heavy diet. (Beef is the worst offender, it takes a ridiculous amount of land and resources to produce). Meat is also healthier in smaller portions, eating too much (like we do in the Western diet) contributes to obesity, heart disease and cancer.

With that said, like I've said before I'd never go full vegetarian or vegan. We are part of a natural food chain and we have evolved to eat meat, it's healthier for us in small amounts than eating none at all.

As Birdprince also said, we hurt animals just by existing, the house you live in was once animal habitat before it got cleared so you could have a roof over your head, and the car you drive pumps fuel into the air that hurts the environment. That's why vegans shouldn't be so high on their moral throne, you're still hurting animals.

I must have been between 4-7 when I first saw a goat being slaughtered in front of my eyes. Not uncommon for a kid to experience that where I grew up. I can never be sure if I actually saw/imagined its soul float away after it eventually stopped squirming, or if someone just made the comment about it. Given how memory works, it was probably the latter. I felt a little nauseous seeing the meat being cooked for dinner in the kitchen later that night, and was aware of that fact the entire time when I ate. Grim stuff, but I got over it overnight.

I have a huge soft-spot for animals, probably more than for humans. After watching this Food Inc documentary, I started buying organic/humanely treated meat, stopped buying processed meat entirely, and hugely reduced eating at fast food places. I'm sure I still eat tons of meat that comes from abused animals. But I don't need to feel like a complete saint to sleep well at night, just as long as I'm not a complete savage either.

Yeah I mean humans are mainly carnivorous, as are some animals. We're just massively overpopulated so that leads to some pretty inhumane ways of providing meat

Well, just think about it, the animals your buying have probably had a crap life. They have been put in small cages and when they are young they are slaughtered, and then their corpses are hung upside down to eat. If you see something get killed you don't want to eat it? But basically when you look at the slices of ham, or those chickens in the shop, you are looking at something that has been killed. I have loads more examples of animal cruelty, but I'm guessing you wouldn't want to here it. Don't hide from it all. Be a vegan! I am, and when you are you feel so much better, because you know you aren't hurting animals. Vegetarians are still much better than meat eaters, but they are still supporting diary. By buying a packet of meat, you are supporting animal cruelty! I understand what you mean where you feel bad for the animals. I do too. But I'm like over the top. I cried the other day when I squashed a flea that was hopping around my bed. Anyway, if you want to feel bad continuesly, then carry on what your doing, if not, I think it's time for a change.

fuck off, unless you're living in the bush, you're supporting animal cruelty no matter what. many foods (even vegetarian) kill and destroy animals habitats to make way to grow more of that particular product.

good work for saving some cows and pigs, but what about the wild animals and native fauna? save the animals, live in the fucking bush away from society because that's the only way you'll never harm animals. (unless of course you get hungry and want to go out for some deer burgers)

Who's to judge the value of a flea's life over the life of anything else? Why would you guys get hostile over her NOT killing something?

But a flea is a parasite.. It's harmfull causes discomfort.. I have zero remorse for anything that Cause any sort of problems.. If you can feel bad for a damn flea then don't ever take antibiotics, because you would be killing those little live salmonella, Azoto bacter, lacto bacillus bacterias etc , also never ever take deworming meds cz it's just a poor worm, even better tape worm in your stomach which may kill you eventually.. So heroic!

People SHOULD feel disgusted and sad over all the awful things that happen to animals on a day to day basis.

I feel sorry for the animals too, but as humans we need meat as part of our diet, even doctors recommended and as many have said its all a food chain, as sad as it is to picture the poor animals suffering and being slaughtered, I could never ever hunt an animal or watch them being killed. :-(
