i hate the singing but i forget about it once i get the presents aka money. :P
ya i feel the same too. i hate it especially when you go out to a nice restaurant and all the waiters and waitresses come together to sing you happy bday. and man that is just embarrassing because you can tell that they don't want to sing and they don't give a fart about our bdays. they just have that look on their face "Not another one"
i wish they would just bring the cake and say a simple (nicely politely) happy birthday and walk away w out any singing.
i don't want people to stare at me
i feel like i am in a zoo only i am the animal that is caged up and everyone is starring at me like i am a monster or something
@Ultra Robbie, there's nothing wrong with crying tears of joy on your birthday. I do it every year.
Oh yes...Its awkward singing and being sung to when it comes to Birthdays. Its a running joke at our school now-and we try do sing to the birthday girl/boy at the most embarassing time possible xD
But once I was in frankie and bennies and my family thought it would be hilarious to get them to play the happy birthday track..
So yeah-totally normal :)
Me and my friends once told the waiters it was my friends b-day 16 b-day even though he was 18 or 19 at the time and it wasn't even his b-day. It was great >:)
I just tend to look down and smile. It does make me look like a mental patient, but honestly what do you expect me to do? Fucking dance about and cry with happiness?
Ya cuz you just kinda stand there and listen to people trying to sing you a song without music...it's weird. I wonder who came up with that.
VERY normal.
In the seventh grade, my best friend at that time had his birthday at a restaurant. He warned me in advance to not let the waiter know it was his birthday. But of course, I did, and soon the entire staff showed up to sing to him. Everyone else in the restaurant stared at him, and my friend was humiliated.
I can't say I could blame him. The birthday song is embarrassing to so many people likely because you don't know how to respond. Say thank you? Smile? Laugh? It's just an awkward position to be in, for some people.
I know the feeling, you really don't know what to do but sit there and smile so much till your face hurts, till they get finished singing that silly song
Some people enjoy being the centre of attention, but most of the people I know do consider it somewhat embarassing to hear the birthday song sung for them -especially in public.
If you are really uncomfortable you could try mentioning it to a few close friends or family members. Maybe they feel the same way, or they will at least respect your feelings about it next year if they know how you feel.
I think most people feel that it should be sung, even if they personally don't like it either, so that the birthday person won't feel neglected.
I'm the exact same, I can't stand it. I know they're only being nice and that but it's so embarassing.
