I think that social anxiety is very common, and what you are experiencing is normal for a lot of people. It can get better over time, and for some it never does. I can't do large crowds of people. (To me this is more than 12-15) I have severe anxiety and panic attacks. Even in my own home, when we have friends and family over, I always have at least one panic attack, and have to retreat to my bedroom for a while! Its hard for me to grocery shop, I have to be prepared mentally and medically. I take medication and it helps me to be more relaxed in these types of environments. It doesn't always work, but 80% of the time is excellent. I was 16 when I was first diagnosed and medicated. I am 40 now. I had to learn coping skills, medication doesn't help with everything, and different ways to handle my panic attacks. As you get older you will learn how to interact, how to communicate, and what social skills are acceptable in your circle, and which are not. We learn every day. Learning doesn't stop when you reach some magic birthday. Learning is a lifetime process. Believe in yourself.

I think it is a little normal, because I used to feel that way-where I couldn't think of anything to say and I would draw a blank. When they would say something, it would take me a while to get my mind to thinking about they said. Then I kinda would talk with them a little. :) But for me, that was back in high school. :P Go figure. Just try to keep calm and try talking about most popular small chat topics-the weather, sports scores-like football team scores, news, food that you like-I've learned that people will talk about food a lot when mentioned! :) I hope that helps you!
