Is it normal to feel a dizzying high when i'm enraged.

Is it normal to feel a dizzying, bad trip sort of high when I become enraged? I've been trying to go to my "happy place" for a while when I get upset but for some reason today this thing that some people would find petty sent me over the edge and I wanted to go beat the crap out of a person I don't even know. Thankfully I wussed out because I really don't feel like getting arrested for assault. But, during this episode and afterward I felt dizzy, off balance, my head was buzzing, ears ringing, I felt intoxicated, impaired, sick and insane.

Yep, pure rage is a hell of a chemical cocktail, and your brain marinates in it until all that adrenaline and such is metabolized. What you felt was the lingering effect of a physiological system hundreds of millions of years old: the fight or flight reflex.

In a sense, you were intoxicated, but it isn't abnormal.

It wasn't until I was sick that I realized how damaging, and strong anger was.

One particular day I had no energy to begin with, and I remember getting angry at something. My body felt horrible. Being angry for that fraction of a moment caused me to be extremely sick for the rest of the day.

They weren't kidding when they said anger and stress are silent killers. Anger is not that silent though.

It's high blood pressure dude! That shit kill u when u get older. Not normal to get that pissed off unless you are running from a dinosaur or you go on a hunt and come back to find the other cave men have got at your wife!
I know it sounds gay but you gotta take this serious, calm down dog.

    • High blood pressure runs in my family. Yeah I never found my husband with the cave bitch(but I know they were in my bed together when I was at work) I was ready to hit her with a big club. Thank God I didn't attack her cause I'm too soft and pretty for jail but I did punch my future ex in face a bunch of times. I was jabbing him like a champ but his squirrely ass got away.

Either way that wasn't what had me mad last night. The above story is one from back in the day, about twelve years ago.

My Paternal grandfather and great-grandfather both died of strokes.

  • I just feel really "light" when I get super angry. I get a positive emotional rise out of confrontation, so I tend to pick fights alot. All the people on one side of my family are like that, will punch you in the face and then wonder why you are still upset about it five seconds later.

You know how to tell if someone feels "good" when angry? They calm down and go back to happy in a matter of seconds, confusing for the other person as most normal people need time to calm down.

    Beware the "switchers".

    • Thanks, I don't think I'm a switcher right now cause I felt hung over afterwards.

      • A switcher feels little "real" anger when they are raging, that's why they start fights over nothing. You sound more like you feel overwhelming frustration rather than anger. Because frustration usually tires the body, anger tends to keep it pumping.

Ditto to what study said, and I would add that rage bursts tiny capillaries in the brain that can turn into brain tutors when you're older. Calm down.

I get the same way. I control my rage pretty well when people are around, but when I'm alone I'll scream into a cushion or punch it, pretending it's whoever I'm mad at, and I'll feel weak afterwards. But if I keep it bottled up I feel physically sick.

Well, when I get really mad, or I am about to do something mean, I feel dizzy. Like other people said, its your adrenaline that gets pumped up really high and you feel much power at the same time. I don't think it's not normal or bad, it's just something that should be kept under control. Hope I helped! :)

Some people enjoy that and can get addicted to it. I've done it before.

    • But it was totally different from the good feeling I get on a roller coaster. I also like those rides that take you up really high and then just drop you!
